Beachwood is a small Ocean County borough with two very different visitor experiences in one place: a quiet Toms River waterfront and a broad stretch of Pine Barrens recreation at Jakes Branch County Park. It works especially well for a relaxed day trip, a family outing, a nature-focused stop or a home base for exploring the central Jersey Shore.
The borough itself is primarily residential rather than a hotel destination, so overnight visitors generally stay in nearby Toms River or other Shore communities and use Beachwood for its waterfront, parks, community events and easy regional access.

Beachwood Beach sits along Compass Avenue on the Toms River and forms the borough's signature waterfront recreation area. The beach, Mayo Park facilities and surrounding riverfront create an easy place for residents and visitors to spend a summer afternoon, attend a community event or simply enjoy the water views.
2026 Recreation BadgesBeachwood's current recreation-badge application lists seasonal badges at $10 per person. Children age 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

Jakes Branch County Park
Jakes Branch County Park, 1100 Double Trouble Road, is one of Beachwood's strongest visitor attractions. Ocean County describes the 400-acre park as a gateway to the Pine Barrens, combining environmental education with active and passive recreation.
Nature CenterInterpretive exhibits, live animals and environmental programs introduce visitors to Pine Barrens ecology, history and wildlife.
Observation DeckA five-story-high observation deck at the nature center provides broad views across the surrounding Pine Barrens forest.
TrailsMore than eight miles of hiking and biking trails, including interpretive routes and a discovery play trail, give visitors several ways to explore the park.

Current hours: Ocean County lists the park as opening at 7:00 a.m., with seasonal closing times that vary through the year. The nature center is generally open Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., except major holidays.
Riverfront Marina & Boating
The Beachwood Riverfront Marina is located at 201-259 Compass Avenue. Running water is available at the facility, and the borough maintains boat slips and a launch ramp.
Boat SlipsBeachwood residents receive priority on the marina rental waiting list. A separate non-resident waiting list is maintained and may be used when the resident list is exhausted.
Launch RampThe municipal launch ramp is restricted to Beachwood residents. Current borough materials list a resident boat-ramp permit process.
